Some
String Tools and Some Instructions on
How
to Get That Dreaded Knot Out
OK, so
you’re yoing, binding, having a great time and that dreaded knot just jumps
right into your yo/ string. How to get
it out? If you are like most folks,
you open up the yo; or, you grab a thin pointed object (I used to use bamboo
skewers!) and try to get that knot out.
Takes a lot of time and is no fun, huh? Well, I
found this little jewel in the Wal-Mart pharmacy section. They are cheap, and come in several
types. The one I like best comes in a
package of two. The tips are curved,
metal, and just the right length! I
keep them chained to my pocketknife and to my yoyo bags, so I’ve always got
one at hand. These rascals will grab
that knot and almost pull it out by itself!
Maybe we can get GReg to carry these?! |

This
is the package. They obviously come
two to a package, in different colors.
They have a small carrying chain already affixed! |
You
can find these types of picks in several styles. The silver one is also available at Wal-Mart. The handle is a bit longer and the tip is
curved more for those really tough knots.
Unfortunately, this one does not come with a carrying chain. Some versions do have a pen-clip type top. |

How To Get That Knot
Out: OK,
so here’s how to use the tool – in case it’s not intuitively obvious. The dreaded knot … |
The trick
to getting out the knot efficiently is to find the right place to pull. Look at the previous photo: see where the
string comes in? See the loop (knot)
crossing over that string? Just slip
the tool under the loop that is overlying the main string length. Pull slightly upward and outward along the
yoyo slot and along the main yoyo string segment, as shown above.

Once
the loop/ knot is opened like this, simply slip the knotted portion out of
the yoyo, or pull the main string length through the loop. |
Viola! |
Good Luck!
Hope this helped!
