Modding
Modding is simply the shortning of the word modify. In terms of yo-yoing it
basically means to change the yoyo from its original state. Some yo-yos infact
require basic mods so they can function correctly.
There are different levels of modding. They are:
1 Guts -changing a string, cleaning a bearing etc. Carrying out maintenance
is necessary and is included in this section.
2 Cosmetic -painting, stickers etc. Cosmetic mods should not really effect the
way the yoyo actually plays.
3 Heavy -often irreversible mods, cutting up yoyos, swapping shells, weight
rings etc.
There is huge scope to create a very personal item and some argue, a piece
of art. There is even a division for modding in The World Yo-Yo Contest.
