Philippines - FLIPSPIN, the Philippines' premiere yoyo and skill toy
organization, with the help of Bankee, Shangri-La Edsa, Duncan and
the National Commision for Culture and the Arts presented the 1ST
DUNCAN SPORTS LADDER COMPETITION (DSLC) last July 31, 2004 . Contestants
, using only Duncan yo-yos, had to go through a sport trick ladder format to qualify for the 3-min.
freestyle finals. Contestants
in the eliminations had to take centerstage and perform yoyo tricks
in succession. Each contesant must attempt one trick before he or
she could go to the next one. Only two misses are allowed and if the
player misses for the third time, he or she is retired from the competition.
Judging for the competition was done by members of Duncan Crew Philippines
(DCP) Edmund San Antonio, Chris Makita, Jay Nolan and Mimi
Baylon together with special guest judge Roy Teo of Duncan Crew Singapore. Engr. Jose Dion Diaz of the NCCA's Committee for Indigenous Games was also on hand to grace the event.
When
the smoke cleared, offstring artisté Allen Paul emerged victorious
in the final field of eleven. Not far behind were Aaron Mark, Jam
Peñas, Joseph Junsay and Joseph Mendoza who came in second,
third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Judging by the audience response
from the DSLC event, rest assured we can expect bigger and better
things from FLIPSPIN and its members for the Philippine National Competition
this coming September. :: see photos below ::
