OTHER STUFF

Make sure to click on the links to see the pics! So, after a couple of months of yo-yoing, I've ventured forth into some related yo-yo stuff. Here are some of things I did to while my time away. I've done some photography, drawing and some modding.

I decided to do some modding after reading some posts on messageboards and some webpages. Lacking resources, I use a small mini/hand-drill for spinning the yoyo half and small jeweller (or craft and eyeglass) screwdrivers dipped in lacquer thinner to grind grooves for rubber o-rings. So far I've modded 2 Freehands, 2 Flying Pandas, 1 Throwmonkey and a failed Duncan Wheel bearing axle mod (still working on it though).

:: The response system ::
Something I put together... My Black Dragon. A Duncan Dragonfly fitted with Bandai-Superyoyo Aqua Dragon Supreme aluminum rings (from my friend Sean Perez). I also had it fitted with my friend Preslie Saraza's brakepad replacement: a fiberglass Radioactive-style Response System. I think Taka has a similar one, a Panda-ringed Dragonfly for offstring via a trade with my friend Sean Perez when they met at Asia-Pacific '04. I can do rim trapezes with it, but it precesses like those fitted with spintop tips on the side. Hope you like it. :D

:: Latex SPR Band ::
Just got a Buzz-On Nemesis from Yoing Skater. Cool yoyo. But I don't have any more friction stickers for it. So it backslides like a greased penguin belly-surfing on a patagonian ice trail. Dire measures... I cut up a rubber latex glove finger into 1/3 inch bands and wrapped them around the SPR spacer. Whether or not it lasts, it will at least tide me over till I can get stickers. ^_^

:: Sides ::
I had a broken panda which was the victim of an unfortunate dying accident. The rubber shells and the body melted and weren't smooth already. So, it was useless for me for some time. Just last saturday I decided to peel off the rubber and sand the plastic so that it would be smooth. i sanded and sanded until it came out like this. It's about the height of a Minimo and almost as wide as a Hyperfreehand and a Minimotu. It's now too light so I use it with weight rings.

Yes, they are long overdue. I lost the film cannister and found it only a week ago. Had them developed. Here they are. ^_^;;

Couldn't do anything so I made drawings for them. The Flipspin logo was designed by Tony Edmunds and Phillip "Stanislao" Rodriguez, by the way. ^_^

This is how I do most of my mods.

::Thumb Grind Mods::
My attempt at making a Flying Panda thumb grind ready. I sanded off the excess plastic from the inner rim.

::YYJ bearing mods::

I wanted to see if my YYJ bearing can fit in other yoyos for some months now. Finally, I found a way to do it. What follows is what I did. It fits in some Yomega, Bandai-Superyoyo and Auldey yoyos which I have (all of which have similar axle and bearing seating size). It also fits Duncans if you remove some plastic from the bearing seating wall to make the YYJ bearing fit.

What you need.
1 YYJ bearing
2 to 4 small Duncan rubber O-rings
1 hard plastic tubing
optional: plastic or metal shims/washers/spacers

What to do:
1. Cut desired length of tubing. (Depends on yoyo and axle you are working on)
2. Slide YYJ bearing onto the center of the tubing.
3. Slide 2 Duncan O-rings on both sides of the YYJ bearing. So your configuration on the plastic tubing would be: O-ring-O-ring-YYJ bearing-O-ring-O-ring.
4. Slide whole assembly onto axle bolt. That's about it. Oh, the Duncan O-rings make the yoyo have an adjustable gap too.

Notes:
1. The Duncan O-rings I used are the small ones that go between the brass spacers and the yoyo.
2. The plastic tubing is important. The inner side has to fit snuggly when you put in on the axle bolt. And when it is already on the axle bolt, the YYJ bearing must fit snuggly when you put the bearing on the plastic tubing. No sliding! The hard plastic tubing I found suitable for this is one I got from the plastic spool of a badminton racquet grip tape. I also use the hollow plastic stick used as a balloon holder.

Some optional things I do:
Instead of 2 O-rings each YYJ bearing side, I sometimes put plastic or metal shims/washers/spacers instead. So sometimes I have a configuration like: O-ring-Shim-YYJ bearing-Shim-O-ring, sometimes I reverse it: Shim-O-ring-YYJ bearing-O-ring-Shim... Whatever floats your boat. ^_^

Tested on: 2 Yomega X-Brain Wing non-clutch halves (uglee!), Yomega plastic transaxle Firestorm Wing, Auldey ball bearing yoyos, Bandai-SuperYoyo ball bearing yoyos and Duncan Freehand.
